Littlethorpe, Leicestershire. The Village Pond

I never knew that Littlethorpe had a village pond but it is clearly marked on the 1886 ordnance survey map. Village ponds were an essential part of life in rural villages, they provided water for livestock, helped with drainage, and helped to swell the wooden cart wheels to stop from becoming loose in hot weather, It was situated opposite the junction of Warwick Road (how did that get its name?) and Cosby Road. Presumably it disappeared with the building of No’s 3, 5, and 7 Cosby Road late 19th or early 20th century.
