Littlethorpe, Leicestershire. The Village Rubbish Dump

I was thrilled to find this when exploring aged ten or so. Situated on the edge of the built up area a couple of fields back from our house and close to the hedgerow. It was just a raised grassed over area but my prodding about uncovered boyhood treasures, numerous clay pipes, candle snuffers, glass bottles etc. Could it have been dumped from one of the village pubs I now wonder, there were three, The Joiners later to become The Old Inn, The Plough and The Woodboy, the location of the latter I’m still searching for.

Extract from 1958 Ordnance Survey map 1958 which is very close to the time I found the dump, marked in red.
